Welcome to my online home.  Just like my timber frame cabin in the mountains of South Carolina, I hope this space will have a sense of place. I am fun-loving Southern woman who loves the old folk ways, fresh tomatoes from the garden, local history, and the atmospheric southern landscape.

“Kimberly Simms writes with eloquence and empathy about an important part of Southern history too often neglected.” --Ron Rash, Author of Serena

Poetry Slam at League Academy

On December 13, 2017 I was excited to host poetry slams for the creative writing students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades (5 classes) at League Academy in Greenville, SC with teacher Allison Franke.

We  had a wonderful unit where students each developed their own original poem that utilized poetic devices and was drawn on their own personal experiences. As part of this unit, I led workshops with students to help them develop an idea that they turned into a poem with craft lessons on imagery, figurative language, and line breaks. We also spent a little on time on public speaking techniques. It was a great 8 day residency!

Pictures coming soon!!!
